Hello my name is Wilmar Isaias Martinez, I am a senior at AMES otherwise known as the Academy For Math Engineering & Science. Throughout my 4 years here at AMES I can say it was all worth it. Before I came to AMES and throughout my time here I would criticize why should I be here? I would wonder why if i am not really smart, I had a mindset of being stuck in the stereotypical latino that does not have a plan for college. Throughout all the talks with teachers, counselors and our principle and dean; I realized that I can get out of that mindset.
I am apart of the group of Dreamers. I was born in Mexico, My mother and I came over to United States when I was at the age of 2. My mother wanted me to have a real life and a real education. My mother and My Father want me to become someone in life they always tell me to get a education. My Father always tells me "work hard become someone you yourself will be proud of saying, don't be like me working everyday from sunrise to sunset just to make enough to pay bills I come from a family of 5, my mother Sofia, my father Eliseo, my sister Amber and my little brother Jaslyn; who is not with us but he is still a part of my day to day life.

The reason I chose this quote is because it is a reflection of my life. It is a lot of words that help me out whenever I am depressed or whenever anything happens in my life these words help me. One special time I heard this, one day I watched the movie and well my baby brother had recently passed away. No one will ever hit you harder than life and that's what life is about. As many times as life throws you to the ground, how much you can take and keep moving forward, to be a champion, or to let life have you down forever. My success is gonna be for my 2 angels that are always gonna watch over me. my 2 brothers Angel Jaslyn and Armando Cuenca.
Attending AMES has become a real great thing in my life. I am so thankful I received the opportunity to attend an early college high school. At AMES I not only learned on an educational level I learned how to be a responsible young adult and well I learned how every action has it's own reaction. If I would of stayed at my local high school I feel like I would probably have dropped out or ended up in jail or dead the reason why is because I have friends that have got there lives taken away by the streets. I would of probably become gang affiliated at my local high school some of my friends began to become gang affiliated. AMES is a way of me getting an education and none of the street life just a young latino getting his high school diploma.
